Bob has been asking me to bring my Zlog out to the field so we can see how the ruptured duck is climbing..... I used it today to test my 78" wing with payload. I was not impressed. I had underpropped the motor and it was more than enough without payload. Adding 12oz or so kinda tipped the scales in favor of the earth rather than sky, and my first launch was a javelin into the ground out about 30 feet. Little to no damage, and I'm back in the air with a really hard toss. Climbs on the graph I have marked and the number you see is climbrate in ft/sec, so multiply by 60 and you have ft/min. My three climbs were about 6, 7.5, and 11 ft/sec, so I'll average them to 8 (the 11 was a short climb) and say she was climbing at almost 500ft/min. Very poor climb rate, will change props and try again.

Well, when I went to change the prop, I discovered that it was on backwards. It spun off in the nose-in, and I was so frazzled that I mounted it the wrong way.
Soooo..... I'll try this same prop tomorrow.

Well, "tomorrow" was today and she flew great in the wind with copilot. I had to be careful not to use too much gain on the copilot (it is controlled by a proportional knob) or I lost all ability to override it with stick inputs.
Climb rate with copilot on kept the nose down as well as climb rate. This can be seen as the 12.x ft/sec climbs on the graph (720ft/min). On the middle climb, I held some up elevator on the stick and got over 15 ft/sec, or 900+ft/min, which is just fine considering it is underpropped. The motor off descents of 6.5ft/sec (390ft/min) are alarming, but the plane has a lot of drag with all the crap hanging on it, and my battered old tiplets. My motor landed cold, my pack with no real ventilation was moderately warm. I will order a new shaft for my 3520-7 motor as it is slightly bent after I "clipped" that tree on landing at the school. ("CLIPPED I said.")
